TREES, PLEASE!
The Sanctuary continues to ask for tree donations. Please ensure they are free of tinsel - if the ducks eat them, they will become very sick.

EROSION PROBLEM AT PAWS
The heavy rains from Spring 2011 and the summer drought contributed to a loss of the bank that runs along the only driveway into the sanctuary grounds. Be a part of the solution today!

Welcome to Possumwood Acres
Wildlife Sanctuary!
Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary (PAWS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit center that exists solely on donations and grants, and the help of our dedicated volunteers. Our goal is to treat and release each animal and return them back to the wild. Many animals come to us due to conflicts with humans, such as being hit by cars, attacked by cats and dogs, or being taken away from their parents by well meaning but unknowing humans. We hold current state and federal licenses for wildlife rehabilitation, possession, and education. Watch a short video of what we are all about!
PAWS is a Wildlife Sanctuary specializing in rehabilitation care and treatment of small mammals, songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, and reptiles. We provide:
-
Orphan care for babies and eventual release back into the wild.
-
Educational programs and presentations to schools, youth and civic groups, and libraries, relating to native local wildlife, ecology, environment, natural resources, and backyard habitat creation.
-
A learning center to provide experience in hands-on rehabilitation skills to new rehabilitators, or those interested in earning their mandatory hours of experience and training for a variety of permits and license.
-
A permanent home to non-releasable waterfowl and assistance with placement of adoptable domestic waterfowl.

Chimney Swift Tower
Built by Calvin Warden and Wilma Bishop

Chimney swifts are declining in numbers throughout North America. To encourage their survival, PAWS recently celebrated the completion of a chimney swift tower on its grounds.
Once found in hollow trees, these birds now make their homes in chimneys, beginning in Spring and ending in Fall, eating insects that include pesky mosquitos! Learn how you can
make a tower in your very own backyard!
